Hamilton
The eleven Tony Award-winning musical Hamilton is the number one Broadway show in the world. This show incorporates not only dancing, singing and acting, but it’s one of the few musicals that have rapping. This tear-jerker phenomenon is about how America started its foundation. This is a story about a man whose legacy started as a boy who moved people with his writing to a man who became one of America’s founding fathers. Although the musical is about Alexander Hamilton, it’s narrated by the man who killed him. The soundtrack is by far the best part about this musical. You can get the full story by just listing to the soundtrack because there are no pauses. This is truly the best way to learn about American History.

Hadestown

If you like Greek mythology, then you’ll love Hadestown. Just like any other Greek Myth, it’s an old, sad, and tragic tale. A tale about a boy named Orpheus and a girl named Eurydice. Most know Orpheus as the son of Apollo, but he was truly just a boy in love. In love with a girl named Eurydice who had seen the world for the way it was. It was the great depression where most people had no shelter and were cold and starving. Orpheus saw the world for the way it could be. Warm, filled with flowers and joy. Orpheus had a gift to give. He was gifted by the gods themself. He wasn’t just a musician, but he could bring the world back into tune. This new musical became official to broadway in 2019 and has already won The Tony Award for Best Musical.

Dear Evan Hansen
One of the most moving musicals is Dear Evan Hansen. DEH is about a teenage boy named Evan who is struggling to find a place to belong. He felt that he could disappear and nobody would notice. Suddenly, he gets everything he’s ever wanted. A father who wouldn’t leave him, a mother who’s always there for him and the perfect girlfriend who saw the good in him all because of a lie. Evan told a lie that got bigger and bigger until he became the lie and lived it. How long can he hold onto this lie that he created until the guilt destroys him? Will this family become like his last? Broken and apart? DEH is also a brilliant novel. You can find it at Barrie public library.

Mean Girls

If you enjoyed the classic movie Mean Girls, then what a better way to get into broadway than watching Mean Girl The Musical? If you don’t know the classic teen comedy, it’s about a girl named Cady who made a big move from Africa to North America. Cady is thrilled to go to high school and make friends that aren’t animals. North Shore high is the typical American high school. The students are categorized into cliques of jocks, nerds, goths and plastics. The plastics are three girls that run the school. Mainly Regina George. Cady helps her newfound friend Janis get revenge on her old bestie Regina. She becomes friends with the plastics and sabotages them. Over the school year, Cady slowly becomes a true plastic. She dresses like them, talks like them and even acts mean like them. This musical is full of funny quotes like “Get in loser, we’re going shopping,” “That’s why her hair’s so big, it’s full of secrets,” or “She doesn’t even go here.” Don’t miss out on this classic teen comedy. It is so fetch!

Into The Woods

This musical has all your childhood stories put into one big twisted tale. The tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and The Beanstock, and Rapunzel. A curse has been put on the baker and his wife. They will not be able to have any children unless they find four items before the time is out. This Broadway musical has made its way to Hollywood in the form of a movie with the hit stars Anna Kendrick, Johnny Deep, Chris Pine, James Corden, and Emily Blunt. Prepare yourself for wicked plot twists, humour and unexpected tears.
