Our Services

At the Barrie Public Library we strive to offer services that meet the needs of our community. Please see Stay Safe Guidelines for information on safety protocols in place during provincial COVID restrictions.

As of June 11, our buildings remain closed to in-library services until Step 2 of the province's Roadmap to Reopening plan.

Computers

As of June 11, computer access is not available at either location until Step 2 of the province's Roadmap to Reopening plan.

When we our buildings are open for the public, computers at both branches are available to library cardholders to use for up to 60 minutes each day.

Internet Guest Cards are available for anyone that only wants to use the public computers. All users must agree to the terms of our Public Internet and Computer Use Policy.

Our public computers have Microsoft Word, Publisher and Excel. 

Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi is available throughout and around our buildings during open hours. There is no password – just connect to the Barrie Public Library network and accept the user agreement.

Photocopying, Printing & Scanning

As of June 11, only wireless and remote printing is available at either location, until Step 2 of the province's Roadmap to Reopening plan.

When our buildings can be open for the public, photocopying and printing is available in black & white or colour at a cost of 20 cents per page.

Scanning to email is also available at both locations. We do not offer fax services.

 

Wireless & Remote Printing

Printing from your own device, within the library or remotely, is available in black & white or colour at a cost of 20 cents per page.

    1. Upload the item you want to print using one of the 3 methods below. The item waits in the library's printing system without being printed.

    2. Where do you want to print it?
      Choose a library branch. This is where the print job is sent

    3. How do you want to print it?
      Select number of copies, page range, black and white or colour and other settings

    4. Go get your prints!
      Once your file is uploaded, go to the chosen library branch to print the file yourself from a print kiosk. Staff can help with this process

Work and Study Space 

As of June 11, our buildings remain closed to in-library services until Step 2 of the province's Roadmap to Reopening plan.

Need a place to work or study? We have tables and spaces, bookable up to one week in advance, available at both locations to accommodate one or two people to work or study. Tables can be reserved for up to 60 minutes and spaces can be reserved for up to 2 hours.

The study room at our Downtown location is currently unavailable.

 

Coaching Sessions

Tech Coach

Have a tech question or issue you need help with? Register for a virtual one-on-one Tech Coach session with our staff for help with the our Digital Library.

Genealogy Coach

Need help with a basic family history search? Discover online genealogy tools and local history collections. Book an one hour virtual Genealogy Coach session, where library staff to provide one-on-one help with basic research. You can also Ask Us or call 705-728-1010 to register for any of these sessions!. 

Visiting Library Service

Our Visiting Library Service is currently suspended due to the COVID-19 restrictions. 

This free service is available to anyone in Barrie or Oro-Medonte unable to visit the library in person. Staff will help you make great selections, and our volunteers will deliver the library materials right to your home. Learn more about Visiting Library Service.

Library Tours

As of June 11, our buildings remain closed to in-library services until Step 2 of the province's Roadmap to Reopening plan.

Tours provide an overview of our services, resources, programs and facilities, and will be customized to meet the needs of your group. Tours are generally 45 minutes in length, and are also available in French.

Room Rental

The Massie Family Program Room at our Painswick location is currently unavailable to rent by the public due COVID-19 restrictions on social gatherings.

Café and Book Boutique

The Café and book Boutique are currently closed. 

We are not accepting books donations at this time. Read our book donation guidelines for when we do begin accepting donations.
