“The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins is a dystopian novel taking place in a futuristic city called Panem. Panem is split into what used to be 13 but is now 12 districts along with the Capitol which controls the districts. After the First Rebellion, a civil war, as a reminder to the districts that caused the war, the Capitol came up with a yearly punishment. Each year, the Capitol would draw the names of a boy and a girl from each district to fight in The Hunger Games, a battle to the death until one tribute is left standing. For the seventy-fourth Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark from District 12 are drawn to go to these games. Together, the two tributes enter the games and face potentially deadly challenges against the other 22 tributes. They work together even though they only know one will remain in the end. Suzanne Collins did an amazing job by writing a unique dystopian novel that many people have read, or watched. The novel is highly detailed and the character build-up is outstanding. Throughout the novel, we learn many small but important details about the main characters, making the novel even more memorable. I think this novel is appropriate for ages 11 and up. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a survival novel. Suzanne Collins incorporated many survival skills that were needed throughout the games. If you enjoy "The Hunger Games” there are another two books to the series, “Catching Fire” and “Mockingjay” along with a prequel, “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” that should be read after all three of the main books. All the books have been adapted into movies which I also recommend watching.  Overall, “The Hunger Games” remains one of my favourite books that I have read and I always suggest it to new readers or anyone who is looking for a well-written survival-based novel.
