“The Lightning Thief” by Rick Riordan is by far one of my favourite books that I have read. Taking place in New York, “The Lightning Thief” is an exhilarating adventure/ fantasy novel. The author Rick Riordan did an amazing job of creating a fast-paced, detailed, and enjoyable book for all ages. Percy Jackson, the main character always knew he was different from other kids. Constantly being kicked out of schools, he had finally settled into a school specialised for “troubled” kids. While on a field trip, he witnesses something even he can’t explain. This leads him to Camp Half-Blood, a camp for children of The Greek Gods. Throughout the novel, Percy experiences challenges and battles that would be impossible to overcome without his new-found friends, Annabeth and Grover. This novel is great for all ages but recommended for young teens (9-13). It is an appropriate novel with lots of humour. I enjoyed this book a lot when I first read it. Since then I have read it again. The characters were well thought out and the concept of the plot is outstanding, never once did I find myself confused about what was happening in this novel. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a funny, adventurous, and action-packed story. Anyone who enjoys mythology will also have a great time reading this novel, as the author incorporated many mythological stories within the book. If you enjoy “The Lightning Thief", there are four other books in the series, which leads into another series called “The Heroes of Olympus" which I highly recommend. Overall, I recommend this book to anyone who reads as it is incredibly well written.
