Downtown Branch

Our Downtown Branch is centrally located in the Downtown core at the corner of Worsley and Owen Streets. The building and facilities are fully accessible. We’re a short walk to the city's beautiful waterfront parks.

Services and Amenities

Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi is available for free throughout the building. There is no password – just connect to the Barrie Public Library network and accept the user agreement.

Café
Our Café is stocked with beverages and snacks, including coffee and tea, water and pop, granola bars, muffins and more. Hours vary with volunteer availability.

Rooftop Reading Garden
The Downtown Branch’s Rooftop Reading Garden is a hidden gem and is open for use between April and November (weather permitting). Bring a book or a project and enjoy the beautiful gardens, Muskoka chairs, tables and benches. We also have a play house for kids!

Other Services
Photocopying and printing is available in black & white or colour at a cost of 20 cents per page. Scanning to email is also available. Computers are available for 120 minutes per day for library cardholders. We do not offer fax service.  Learn more about our services offered at both branches.

Yamaha Digital Piano
Book our Yamaha Digital Piano! BPL is offering one-hour sessions with our new digital piano, open to all aspiring students and teachers, or casual players alike.

Getting Here

Barrie Transit
There is no longer a bus stop outside of the downtown location of the Barrie Public Library. The nearest bus stops to the library are:

Bicycling 
Bike racks are available for securing your bicycle outside, both on Owen Street near the parking lot, and at the front of the building. Bike locks are available to borrow with your library card for up to 4 hours.

Driving 
Get off at the Bayfield Street exit and head south on Bayfield Street. Turn left on Sophia St. East and stay right at the fork. Our parking lot is located on the right hand side at the corner of McDonald and Owen Street. On-street parking is also available.

Parking

Parking is regulated by the City of Barrie. The parking lots and on-street parking are free on evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays. From Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., the Library Parking lot is $1.25 per hour for a max of 3 hours. The nearby H-Block Parking lot is $1.25 per hour, or a daily parking rate of $7. Payment can be made with coins, credit cards, or the HotSpot Parking App.
