Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

By Anna, Ninth grader

The Percy Jackson and the Olympions book series is one of the most incredible book series I have ever read. This book is definitely a 9/10 because as it’s the start of the series it’s the most well written, exciting and thrilling read out of them all. The humour is amazing, as well as the characters who are all different in their own ways and have their own challenges.

This book is so amazing on many different levels. For example, all ‘Demigods’ in the books have ADHD, Dyslexia, or another type of disorder that makes them have a hard time in the real world. If you’re someone that deals with this, this book makes you feel right at home and there’s so many characters you can relate to and love.

This book is about a twelve year old named Percy Jackson who is dyslexic and has ADHD. He has been bounced from school to school for years as he’s never fitting in and is constantly slandered and bullied by his classmates. Eventually his mother places him in an academy called Yancey, but he doesn’t stay in it for too long. Percy later finds out that his father is a Greek god, Poseidon. His mother told him stories about the Greek gods when he grew up to prepare him for this, but he never imagined it could be real. Percy goes to Camp Half Blood where all the other children of the god’s reside and learn to fight and use their own abilities. Percy gets chosen for a quest to retrieve Zues’s master bolt before the summer solstice, and he chooses his best friend Grover and a girl named Annabeth to accompany him.

This book has so many crazy and interesting parts, there’s a great betrayal, so many action scenes where you cannot put the book down, and lot’s more. If you’re a lover of Greek mythology and Greek gods, this book is for you.
