“The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" by Suzanne Collins goes into the backstory of President Snow and his early life. Set during the 10th annual Hunger Games, young Snow must mentor a young tribute from district 12. As the plot progresses you as the reader gets to realize the true intentions and personalities of not only Snow, but the other characters within the story too.

By reading “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" you will be provided with so much more on how the dystopian world of the Hunger Games was built and will keep you hooked through the book!

Personally, I did feel the pacing was a bit odd, and I didn’t like how the ending left you feeling a bit unanswered. But other than that, this book was extremely well written. The world building was planned out so well, and it felt like every sentence the author used had a deeper meaning to the story. I really enjoyed Suzanne Collins’ one-of-a-kind writing style filled with song lyrics and references to the original trilogy.

Overall, I think this prequel book is a wonderful read for those who are already familiar with Katniss and Peeta’s story and want more from the Hunger Games universe. I would also recommend this book to those who are the reading type but have watched or are planning on watching the film “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes”. If you are interested in dystopian novels, you would enjoy reading this book! After reading this I hope you consider picking up this book because it truly is amazing!
