Twisted Love

Ana Huang

Ashleigh (Grade 10)

Rating: 3/5

Ava Chen is a 22 year old college student who dreams of being a well-known photographer. She loves to take pictures of all the beauties in the world to make up for her ugly past and give her a brighter future. However a wrench in her plans comes in the form of a familiar nuisance that has moved in next door to her: Alex Volkov.

Alex Volkov is a billionaire on the hunt for vengeance for a past crime. He is also Josh Chen’s best friend, and suddenly the new protector of his little sister, Ava. Moving in next door was simply comfort for Josh, who was going to be overseas. However, it turns into so much more as Alex becomes very fond of Ava, and Ava in turn cracks the icy exterior of his heart. The pair face spectacularly unique struggles together, and ultimately have to fight for their love. But there are too many mysteries. Lies that have lasted longer than they should have. Will Ava and Alex overcome these challenges or will they ultimately be their downfall?

This is the first novel of the Twisted series which are whole-heartedly errotic romances. Ana Huang has a very original style of aggressive compassion that will steal readers’ breaths. Not only that, but the adventure, mystery and action is sometimes more intriguing than love story itself, having some desperate to uncover truths, with plot twists no one could have predicted. Twisted Love is a perfect description of Alex and Ava: a strange love.

I think this book is excellent for anyone who has a taste for descriptive, errotic romance, open to reading something between the lines of dystopian and real. This subsection of romance is very small but also really detailed and simply nice. Personally, I found that it was very aggressive and dark, but also sweet in a convoluted way that had me desperate for more. The amount of times that this book unveiled dramatic news that caught me by surprise proved its suspenseful yet intriguing style. I was shocked by how I could have missed such obvious (and not) reveals.

Lastly, I recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys books by Colleen Hoover. The read is similar, yet closer to the fantasy side of romance with mafia and princesses. However, the dark nature of death found in this book is also great for erotic romance readers, and I highly recommend it to readers who enjoy the devastating/dramatic side of love stories.
