Gran Turismo is a movie released in 2023, based on a true story from the perspective of Jann Mardenborough. Like any teenager, Jann was confused on what he actively wanted to pursue in his lifetime. He had no interest in anything. Anything except video games. His favorite game was a racing game called Gran Turismo. Jann would play with his friends, and other gamers online and became so good, he was given the opportunity to become an actual race car driver, sponsored by Nissan. The movie follows the journey of Jann, competing in a video game from his bedroom, all the way to racing alongside the best racers in the world. He would not have an easy journey, but it would be a journey for the history books.
I was very skeptical before watching this movie. A movie based on a video game would normally not be my cup of tea. However, I was greatly surprised at how good this movie was. For someone who has never played the actual Gran Turismo video game, I didn’t feel like I was missing any sort of context or information. It was just an enjoyable movie about a young man pursuing his dreams.
I believe this movie is fun for the whole family. I don’t think you really need to be a gamer to love this movie as much as I did. Although, I do also believe that all gamers would especially enjoy this movie. Overall, Gran Turismo greatly exceeded my expectations and I would recommend almost anyone to watch it.
