My name is Emilio and I would rate the movie Dune a 4/5 due to its gripping, mysterious story along with its amazing cinematography. Dune is a sci-fi fantasy-adventure film, similar to Star Wars, and is directed by Denis Villeneuve. Telling a similar story to its book counterpart, it is about the life of a genius/gifted boy, Paul Atreides and how he must determine the future of not only his family, but his people. Paul travels to many areas in order to understand the visions that he is getting along with the goal of finding new land. The movie gives a lot of time for the characters to grow and to improve on the worldbuilding, making you engaged with the plotline. The movie does a great job at showing the intensity of the struggles and success that each person goes through, especially the protagonist. The actors for each character are strong, play their part well, and fit in with their character’s personality. In addition to this, the visuals perfectly complement the atmosphere they are trying to capture. I love the costume designs of each individual and each cinematic shot looks beautiful to look at. Dune takes a futuristic approach to their backgrounds, atmosphere, and costumes and it is incredible to see how it is implemented in the movie. Along with the visuals, the soundtrack takes an experimental approach and brings a more ethnic, ethereal sound to fit the mood. It is absolutely jaw-dropping hearing the score with the beautiful visuals of the movie. Sometimes you would be distracted because you are more focused on the atmosphere and music. Dune may take a different approach to a sci-fi fantasy adventure genre, but I think it excels well in that department. It is similar to movies such as Lord of the Rings and Star Wars and seeing Dune reminds me of watching them. I would recommend this movie to anyone but especially to those who are interested in sci-fi, action-adventure, or fantasy movies. Dune is definitely one of my favourite movies that came out in 2021.
