Under Amelia’s Wing tells a great story of Ginny’s journey and struggles in pursuing her dreams of aviation. The story documents Ginny’s journey, and is actually based on a true story after the author’s family met Amelia Earhart before she went missing. This story did an amazing job in establishing that old 1930’s setting, through the vivid descriptions of the surroundings and environment. This led to an immersive feeling, and it was almost like I was living in those moments. However, in order to reach this, the reader has to first get through the slow beginning which is not very eventful as she is still arriving at the university where her troubles start. Once Ginny arrives at the university, the book gets interesting as the struggles Ginny faces being a female student in a STEM type class are introduced. Her struggles as a woman during this time period are written well, as they are an accurate representation of the struggles women faced in the 1930's and early 40’s. As the only female student in her mechanical engineering class, Ginny constantly faces discouragement and hatred towards her path in education, from her classmates and even professors. Despite it all, Ginny perseveres, and the few characters that grow close to Ginny are very heartwarming and their interactions add a nice touch to the story. Ginny’s perseverance despite having few supporters makes the reader really root for her success, leading to a satisfying ending. Overall, I rate this story a 4/5 for its amazing representation of women’s struggles, while the introduction could use a little improvement. I would recommend this story to anyone interested in women’s struggles in the past, or someone looking to read about a character that perseveres against the mob. I enjoyed reading this book, and I look forward to reading the second of this two part series.

4/5 stars
