Encanto - Directed By: Jared Bush & Byron Howard

Rating: 5/5 Reviewed by: Vivian, Grade 12
Encanto is a visually stunning and emotionally resonant animated film that takes audiences on a magical journey into the heart of a unique Colombian family. The film follows Mirabel, who is the only person in her magical family without a bestowed gift. She embarks on a journey where she discovers why the magic surrounding the Encanto is now in danger. The plot of the film is incredibly intriguing and the film always left me curious about what was going to happen next. Additionally, the musical soundtrack was incredible, and is definitely one of my favorite Disney soundtracks of all time. Every song was a treat to listen to, and the production of all of the songs was top notch. Cinematically, the visuals were out of this world! The screen was always filled with so much colour and I think that the character designs were so well made and gorgeous. It was really lovely to see all the characters wear traditional Colombian clothing, because I wasn't really familiar with the culture prior to the film. I learned so much about different cultures and languages from this film! As well, the characters are all so endearing, each with their own quirks and struggles, making all of them so memorable to me. I love how the writers made them so relatable and understandable. I would definitely recommend watching this film with your family and loved ones. The filmmakers paid so much attention to detail, and it would be a shame to miss out on this beautiful masterpiece!
