My name is Rachael (grade 12), and I would rate Monster Hunter Stories 2 a 4/5. Released in 2021 by Capcom, this Monster hunter game plays more like a Pokémon title then any of the mainline games. The game follows your character, who lives in a village where people have learned to tame monsters instead of hunting them. In the first hours of the game, your character discovers an unusual Rathalos egg, which is prophesied to hatch a Razewing Rathalos, a creature capable of causing untold destruction. This sends you on the run from monster hunters, leading to a series of adventures. The story is decent, if not particularly complex. It also stands completely independently, so its not required to play the previous Stories game to enjoy or understand this one. Gameplay involves raiding monster nests to collect new monster eggs, then battling stronger monsters and levelling up your party. Like the mainline games, you will also use monster parts to craft armour and weapons for yourself, as you fight alongside your monster companions. The graphics are passable, but still a step back compared to titles not restricted by the Nintendo Switch’s hardware. A normal play through will likely take about 36 hours to complete, but like most monster hunter games, Stories has a wealth of post-game content, plus both cooperative and competitive multiplayer, expanding playtime for dedicated fans. This game will likely be enjoyed by fans of the previous Stories title, children, and Monster Hunter fans looking for something a little different.
