The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas Review

Rated 3.5/5

Catalina Martín desperately needs a date for her sister's wedding. After an unfortunate situation with her ex in Spain, she moves to New York to start a new life. But everyone back in Spain pities her and she fears coming back single once again. This ends with a little white lie to her mom about having an American boyfriend. Now that her whole family knows, Catalina only has 4 weeks to find a fake boyfriend and she fears she might not have enough time. But the last person on her mind that would offer comes in, Aaron Blackford. Catalina would rather refuse as Aaron is the most insufferable, aggravating, and condescending man she’s met. However, time is running out, and Aaron is looking like her best and only option. And after spending more time with him outside of the workplace, she realizes that he might not be as bad as he is.

“The Spanish Love Deception” is a romance novel in an office setting between Catalina Martín and Aaron Blackford. I liked the banter between Catalina and Aaron. They’ve had a hatred for each other for 2 years so you can feel the slight tension between them. I also loved how it mentioned how difficult it was for women to work in these types of workplaces because of unfair treatment and misogynistic views. However, I disliked how it kept mentioning Aaron’s blue eyes in every chapter. I found it unnecessary most of the time. This book is also known to have the enemies-to-lovers trope, but I wouldn’t say it is because it’s one-sided. The whole enemy’s thing was from miscommunication so for me, their relationship didn't count as enemies in the end. The story was a bit predictable, but nonetheless, it was an enjoyable read! I recommend this to anyone who likes contemporary romance, fake dating, slight enemies-to-lovers, and a setting in the office.
