From April 24 to 30 2022, the Barrie Public Library will celebrate our volunteers during National Volunteer Week. This annual celebration is a time to thank and recognize our volunteers

This year’s theme Volunteering is Empathy in Action highlights how this profoundly human connection is at the heart of healthier individuals and stronger communities.

Empathy is a quality that can help people relate to others and build awareness around different experiences. It connects people in ideas and actions and helps create bonds forged in common goals and aspirations.

When volunteers give their time to us, they demonstrate that everyday kindness, helping others and contributing to their community is an integral part of their lives.

Volunteers help our community Discover Opportunities.

Whether delivering books to our homebound patrons, encouraging newcomers to develop their English language skills, or helping children to become more confident readers, Barrie Public Library volunteers are prime examples of Empathy in Action.

Empathy brings out the best in people. It makes our society a fairer, kinder, more compassionate place, and volunteering plays a significant role in creating that.

Barrie Public Library would like to thank our current volunteers and those who have been patiently waiting to be welcomed back into our spaces. Our volunteers play a critical role in creating a more just and equitable society and Barrie Public Library wouldn’t be the same without them.
