Beginning in January members of the Barrie Public Library will have access to a new resource called Transparent Language. The online language learning platform has courses for over 100 languages!

Transparent Language will take the place of Mango Languages as BPL's primary online language platform. Transparent Language provides a fun, effective, and engaging experience for online language learners of all levels. Combining robust courses with supplemental vocabulary and grammar resources, Transparent Language is the most complete language-learning system. With over 110 languages to choose from - including English for speakers of over 30 other languages - there is something for every learner. Best of all, with mobile apps for iOS and Android devices, learners can enjoy the freedom to learn at home, in the library, or on the go.

Courses are available for variety of indigenous languages, including Ojibwe, Oji-Cree, Denesuline and more. American Sign Language (ASL) is also offered, as are courses in different dialects of some languages such as French (European, Canadian, Moroccan).

Kidspeak is also available for some languages (Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish). This is a course format aimed at younger learners in grades K-2. Kidspeak is only available on the website, not the mobile app.

If you'd like to kick off 2024 by learning a new language, get started by watching this Transparent Language Online Tutorial, and begin your Transparent Language journey at this link. Happy learning!
