The Barrie Public Library has many exciting programs in store for the holiday season. You will find fun activities for the entire family at all three of our branches throughout December and January, with special programming during the holiday break. From singalongs and movie nights to visits from princesses and knights, there is fun to be had by all! 

Twelve Days of Tweens  

The fun kicks off on December 1st with Twelve Days of Tweens at the Holly Branch. Until December 12th, the library will be hosting daily programming for Tweens, ranging from crafts, to anime, board games and more. You are encouraged to bring a friend and your creativity!  

Kwanzaa Celebration  

To begin holiday festivities, join us for a special Kwanzaa Celebration on December 9th at the Painswick Branch. Come listen to a storytime about this African American holiday. 

Hannukah Storytime 

Curious to learn what a Dreidel and a Menorah are? Celebrate Hannukah Storytime with us on December 13th at the Downtown Branch. Learn all about the Jewish festival and what it means to those that celebrate it. 

Noon Years’ Eve 

For those with little ones, join us to celebrate New Years’ Eve at noon! Noon Years’ Eve celebrations are happening on December 27 at the Downtown Branch, December 28 at the Holly Branch, and December 29 at the Painswick Branch. We will ring in 2024 with songs, rhymes, and stories.  

 

Medieval January @ BPL 

Start your 2024 off by travelling back to medieval times at Barrie Public Library. You will have a chance to meet knights and princesses, build castles and chariots, and listen to stories and songs as a family.  

Day of Knights  

Do you have what it takes to be a noble knight? Join the library for a Day of Knights! The Dueling Weapons Academy of Renaissance Fencing will be at the Downtown and Painswick Branches on January 3rd to teach you about knights, amour, and swordplay. We welcome school-aged children and teens to participate in this program. Tickets are available 30 minutes prior to the program on a first come, first serve basis.  

Princess Sing-a-long 

Join us for a Disney Princess sing-a-long with our special guests, Belle and Jasmine. The princesses will be visiting all three branches on January 4th. Come prepared to sing and in your best costumes! Be sure to register to secure your spot. 

Legends of Zelda Escape Room  

For those who like a challenge, try to find the sword and save Zelda from Ganondorf in a Legends of Zelda escape room. Drop by the Holly Branch on January 4th from 11 am to 4 pm to try out your escaping skills. We welcome school-aged children and teens to participate in this program. Sign up to participate begins at 10:30 am and it is first-come, first-served. 

 

Build It: Castle Edition 

If building and creating is more your style, join us for Build It: Castle Edition on January 3rd at the Downtown Branch and January 4th at the Painswick Branch. You will be able to create and build your own castle. Children must be accompanied by a caregiver for this program.
