Luca is an animated Pixar Movie directed by Enrico Casarosa. The setting takes place on the Italian Riviera and is a Fantasy/Comedy movie. It is a coming of age story about a young boy who is labeled as a “sea monster”. He and his friend experience a summer above water trying to hide their identity. The story of Luca and Alberto and their adventures roaming a whole new world. Him and his new best-friend above water puts them both at threatened danger of their secret; being a sea monster.

I personally really liked this Pixar movie. It was filled with excitement and adventure throughout the film. The animation was great, from the characters to the setting, it was clean and crisp from start to finish. One thing I really liked about this movie was the meaning behind it; friendship. Choosing friendship to help with your social skills and create memories of a lifetime. I really liked how the cretors choose to have a deeper happy meaning, of bringing people together, no matter who you are. To me, this movie shows how just because he was a “sea monster”, doesn’t mean he is a bad person and shouldn’t be with “normal people”. This aspect can be applied to real life with racism. Putting it in this way and promoting it to kids to view from this perspective is incredibly smart. Developing movies and showcasing it this way makes the audience and society as a whole, grow as a person. Putting more meaning into movies can really affect people’s personal lives and influence/shape them. Another thing I liked about this movie was the characters. How Alberto was written off to be ambitious and curious, while Luca kept to himself and was kind/respectful. Alberto helped break Luca’s shell and made him a completely different (but better) person by the end of the movie. It aso was smart because there are real people who can relate/are similar to the characters. Not only with their good things but with their flaws as well.

Overall, this was a great movie that was heart-warming and filled with emotions. I would recommend this movie to anyone over the age of 4. It is advertised to children but I feel that anyone can watch it, your age doesn’t matter, especially if you like Pixar movies.
