This book was amazing. It is the sequel to the book “King of Scars,” and it did not disappoint. Before you decide to read this book, you should read the previous Grishaverse Series, the Shadow and bone Trilogy, and the Six of Crows Duology, and the prequel of this book, King of Scars. To be able to understand the plot, and to have a preface about each character. The book follows Nikolai, the King of Ravka, Zoya, a Squaller, and Nina, a heartrender with strange powers. The plot focuses on the war Fjerda is raging against Ravka. Nikolai, the King of Ravka, must use every tool he has to turn the tide in this war, where Ravka, a bankrupt country, is losing. Zoya Nasyalensky, is a very powerful grisha squaller, who is the general of Ravka’s armies. The situation is very dire in Ravka and requires Zoya to embrace her new powers. Nina Zenik, a heartrender with powers to control the dead, is a spy within Fjerda hiding with Jarl Brum, her enemy. The genre is fantasy and adventure. If you enjoy reading about magic, and prefer books with a very detailed, well thought out plot, this book is for you. In this book, one of my favourite things is how the backstory of one of the main characters, Zoya, is explored. Finally, you can understand her feelings, and personality. The world building in this book is also amazing. One of my favourite parts was when the Crows showed up for a heist. It added a lot of depth to the story. I also loved how diverse the characters are in Grishaverse books. When Zoya explores her Suli roots made the story so meaningful, and encouraged the diversity in the book. The previous books fixated on one place, like Kerch, or Ravka, while this book explored the lands we haven’t read much about yet, like Fjerda, and Shu Han. I also loved how this book had chapters through Queen Makhi’s, and the Monk. It was refreshing to see how each of the characters' actions played out through the villains' eyes. Overall, I recommend this book to anyone who loves a fantasy adventure book, and especially if you read previous Leigh Bardugo books and enjoyed them.
