Good Girl’s Guide to Murder

Author: Holly Jackson

Natalia (12) 4/5

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is a mystery novel written by Holly Jackson. The story is about highschooler Pippa Fitz-Amobi, living in Fairview Connecticut, who decides to investigate a closed murder case for her senior project. Pippa believes Sal Singh, who committed suicide following Andie’s death, was wrongfully accused of committing the five-year-old murder. What’s even more suspicious is that Singh confessed to the murder via text after was found dead in the woods. Pippa believes Singh was innocent and had nothing to do with the murder of his then girlfriend Andie Bell, despite his confession. The further Pippa gets into the case she starts to uncover red herrings, twists and turns and secrets that were not made public. Using her own senses, documents and conducting interviews in her search for the truth, Pippa uncovers the truth about what really went down that fatal night. Pippa’s search for the truth did not go without personal risks and threats as she got closer to unveiling the events of the night Andie Bell died. After receiving a warning note to stop her investigation her dog is taken and killed.

After Andie got into a huge fight with Mr Ward, her History teacher, with whom she was having an affair, Andie went home where she had a second fight with her sister Becca. Becca was angry at Andie when she found out she had been dealing drugs since Becca was drugged and raped. The fight between the sisters got physical. Becca pushed Andie which caused her to hit her head and choke on her own vomit. Jackson’s intricate storytelling combined with great character building had me hooked from beginning to end. The Good Girl’s Guide to Murder touches on deception, the complexity of relationships and suspense.
