The Shallows

Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra

Kelly Kennedy grade 9

I would rate this movie a 5/5.  Nancy goes to a beach that her mother loved, and that she talked about for years with Nancy but Nancy never went until she found herself questioning the direction of her life and needed a break before heading into the next chapter of her life.  The beach was beautiful and had killer waves for surfing.  However, after coming across the carcass of a dead whale, she realized something was wrong but it was too late.  Nance finds herself fighting for her life, man against shark.  Alone, stuck in the shallow water on a coral rock in the high and low tide, she devises a plan to get back to shore safely but continues to encounter challenges along the way.

This movie keeps your blood pumping, heart racing and muscles tense during the most part of the movie.  I have watched this movie at least a dozen times and still can’t get enough of it.  It is exhilarating to say the least.  If you are afraid of sharks, queasy at the sight of blood or scared of the ocean blue, this movie is not for you.  If you are an adventure seeking, thrill junkie, and love sharks, this is your movie.  I don’t have a favourite part in this movie, in my opinion, everything in this movie was exciting to see and the suspense was an ongoing thrill.  I would recommend this movie to ages 12 and up because there are some gorey, violent scenes that are not suitable for younger viewers.
