Top Gun: Maverick” is the sequel to the popular 1986 film, “Top Gun” starring Tom Cruise. The movie was released in May 2022, with Tom Cruise returning as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, a talented pilot in the US Navy. Taking place 30 years after the original, “Top Gun: Maverick” follows Maverick after he is called back to Top Gun, this time to train a group of pilots for a special mission. The movie was action-packed, with many outstanding graphics and intense flight scenes. Overall, I would rate the film a 4/5.

The cast of this movie did an excellent job of bringing the characters to life. I especially like that they brought back some of the actors from the original movie. Not only did they get back Tom Cruise, but they also brought back Val Kilmer as Iceman. He was one of my favourite characters in the original Top Gun movie, so I liked that they incorporated him into the storyline. Another one of my favourite characters was Rooster, played by Miles Teller. Rooster is Goose’s son from the original movie, and they paid a lovely tribute to him in the sequel. One of my favourite examples was when they recreated the scene where Goose sings “Great Balls of Fire” while playing the piano.

When comparing the original to the sequel, the cast and crew did a very good job at incorporating the necessary elements of the original to create a nostalgic feel for the movie while also using technological advancements to create amazing action scenes. Even though the flight scenes in the original were good, they were nothing compared to the action scenes in “Top Gun: Maverick.” If you are a fan of the original Top Gun, I highly recommend watching the sequel – you will not be disappointed! If you haven’t watched the original, I recommend watching it before you watch the sequel so that you can fully appreciate the storylines of the two films.
