Onward (2020), directed by Dan Scanlon is a Disney film full of magical creatures and adventure. The characters, feelings, and story all make this an amazing Disney movie. The 2 main brothers Ian and Barley Lightfoot have a strong bond between each other which makes their relationship so fun. One who is awkward and unsure, and the other oozing with personality, and with a vast knowledge of magic. The magic feels very real as the brothers must set out on a quest and work together to see their dad for just one more day. You see Barley try his best to act as Ians mentor and prove himself during the movie. The side characters are pretty funny too. The emotional scenes really hit me hard and it made me feel for these characters. Onward has a great plot, beautiful animated scenery, and loveable characters. At some parts the film seems as if it is just a childlike comedy, but the sentimental parts make it mean so much more. The movie has some great life lessons in it as well. This includes trusting in yourself, having courage and trusting others to guide you. It teaches the value of sibling relationships and putting someone’s needs before your own wants. I would give this movie 4 / 5 stars. I think the animation is very well done as well as the musical and written aspects of the story. I would say this movie is a nice family movie. I would recommend it to children, adults, and families as this movie has something for everyone to enjoy.
