The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, written by Taylor Jenkins Reid, is a sad and romantic story from the perspective of a fictional Hollywood icon called Evelyn Hugo. Evelyn is a powerful and ambitious woman who everyone loves. She has had a dramatic life in Hollywood with seven different husbands during her highs and lows of fame. She has been a star in Hollywood since the 50’s and has kept most of her life a secret. Monique is a young woman asked to write a story on Evelyn’s life which has been hidden for a long time. As Monique learns more about Evelyn, her true story is revealed in the way she wants it to be, rather than what the media has made it seem. Monique learns a lot of life lessons from Evelyn while they work together to write the story. The book is divided into different parts of Evelyn's life with different husbands. Some of the husband characters are more prominent than others but they all have a large influence on her life in old Hollywood. Celia St. James is another important character that is very close to Evelyn and it is revealed why later in the story. The book is written with shorter paced chapters which makes it a quick read that's hard to put down. You can see many layers of Evelyn Hugo and how she was presented in different ways by the press and some of her co-stars.  Evelyn’s story is very interesting and fun to read about. The book does a great job allowing you to really understand and feel for Evelyn’s character as they show many parts of her life including her childhood.  Her exciting life in Hollywood is fascinating as I also found her character to be similar to Marilyn Monroe.  I would recommend the book to anyone who likes romance, drama and historical fiction. I would also recommend it to anyone who has an interest in older movies and glamorous Hollywood lifestyles from the 1950’s - 1970’s. Overall I really loved this story and I would give it 5/5 stars. It has been one of my favourite books to read and I have recommended it to many others.
