We’re inviting you to paddle into some unique programming this August! We’re celebrating an online Dragon Boat Month presented by Tim Hortons in honour of our annual Barrie Dragon Boat Festival.
“Although we had to cancel the on-water Festival this year, our online celebration will definitely capture the spirit of community and fun,” says Katelyn Lees, Philanthropy & Resource Development Specialist at the Barrie Public Library. “We are thrilled to have Tim Hortons present this exciting month of programming with us.”
From Dragon Tale Storytimes to online visits with the Toronto Zoo and Coffee Chats with Dragon Boat personalities, there will be something for every age. For the kids, pick up a Grab and Go Kit full of fun activities, including a Tim Hortons colouring contest for a chance to win Timbits for a year, and a build-your-own Dragon Boat craft (while quantities last), compliments of Moore Packaging. The Library is pleased to work with long-time Festival supporter Tim Hortons to bring this unique opportunity to the community.
“At Tim Hortons, you’re always welcome,” said Geoff House, Restaurant Owner. “We’re happy to serve you each day, and even happier when we can work together to help make a difference in our community. That is why we are proud partners of the Barrie Dragon Boat Festival.”
A fixture on Barrie’s waterfront since 2003, our Barrie Dragon Boat Festival has promoted community spirit, vitality, and unity, while raising money for local charities including the Library.
“The Festival normally raises upwards of $120,000 each year, and this is the second year of missing that opportunity to help local organizations,” Lees continued. “We are encouraging the community, if you are able, to make a donation to the charity of your choice. The Library is grateful for the continued support of its sponsors, partners, and volunteers, and we can’t wait to have the event back in-person in the future.”
