My name is Emilio (Grade 10), and I would rate the album Astroworld a 4/5 because it takes an upbeat and psychedelic approach while maintaining excellent production and vocals. Travis Scott’s album, Astroworld, was distributed through three labels: (Epic Records, Cactus Jack Records, and Grand Hustle Records). This album revolves around the hip hop, trap, and psychedelic rap genres and has aged beautifully since its debut in 2018. The concept of this record is unique based on the closed-down amusement park in Houston, Texas, Astroworld. It takes you on a journey of the lost, happy, fun memories that were once at an amusement park before it got taken down. Throughout the song catalog, there is an enjoyable mix between chill, rhythmic tunes such as STARGAZING, R.I.P SCREW, and ASTROTHUNDER. But it has punchy, upbeat tracks such as CAROUSEL and SICKO MODE. The production and flow in the album are executed to a high degree, and his production level is consistent with all of his tracks. The flows in these songs are creative, catchy, and melodic, which complement the instrumentals beautifully. The autotune in his voice assists with his versatility and adds more colour to his melodic flow and songwriting. Unfortunately, there are low points in this album, including his lyrical capabilities and some underwhelming parts. The lyrics and their meanings can be confusing at times and sometimes make no sense, but he makes up for it with his superior flow patterns and vocals. YOSEMITE is probably one of the weaker songs on this tracklist because not all parts are equivalent. Travis and Gunna had a solid performance throughout the song, but NAV’s verse at the end was incredibly dull as the low mixing practically makes his verse inaudible and unenjoyable. Overall, I think this is an entertaining and solid album from Travis Scott as the stellar production, creative flow patterns, and versatile vocals are executed wonderfully. But his lyrical abilities and weaker tracks keep this album from reaching its maximum potential. I would recommend this album to anyone interested in hip-hop and trap as this is a great album.
