4/5 - it was pretty good

The Manor House by Gilly Macmillan is a mystery novel demonstrating the themes of suspense, family drama and dark secrets. The setting of this novel is in an old English estate, the novel revolves around a murder over money. The characters in “The Manor House” are described in an interesting way - they feel real. Such as Eleanor Adler, who is the family leader she's described in a vivid way: mysterious, strong willed and extremely protective of her family. Even though she's not one of the main characters you get an understanding of what she is like. The main characters Nicole and Tom Booth, are a couple who are described as down-to-earth and happy. Nicole and Toms lives change after a lottery win, assuming since they’re always happy they would experience extreme joy and celebrate over this good news - however they don't celebrate. This lottery that was supposed to lead to good news led to tragedy and various suspenseful twists. This novel is plotted with various twists that keep the reader interested. Each character minor or big has a distinct personality and role that affects the narrative. In my opinion this is an great book. My favorite part of the book is how the author describes the characters, and is descriptive of the narrative playing out. The author makes it seem as if everything is playing out right in front of you. Overall, this book is perfect for readers that like mystery. If you enjoy books with a mix of psychological drama and suspense then read “The Manor House.”
