Many of you may be interested in this novel because of the Prime Video series on Amazon. The novel series is very different and, in many ways, better. The Eye of the World is the first book in a 14 volume Epic Fantasy Series. The story focuses on the release of ancient and powerful enemies known as the Forsaken who want to release the Dark One from his prison. To prevent this, the Dragon Reborn must be found. The Eye of the World begins with this search and the introduction of a Farm Boy in a small village. While he seems to be an unlikely candidate, there are clues that he may be far more than he seems. Red hair and blue eyes in a village of dark haired and brown eyed villagers hint at a unique past. That and the sudden interest of the Armies of the Dark make you believe that the village may be far more important than you think.
I really enjoyed this novel and recommend it for dedicated readers. It begins with mystery, suspense and action that grabs your attention and holds it for the entire book. Robert Jordan has a gift for descriptive language that helps you picture things in your mind, although this can be a bit too detailed at times, leading me to skim over some of it. He does an excellent job promoting gender equality that is the norm in the story rather than the exception. If you enjoy action, suspense, and conflict, you will not be disappointed in descriptive fight scenes and a unique magic system that is well explained. At the same time, if you enjoy strong character development, you will enjoy the back stories, emerging relationships, and character tension that Jordan creates. This is an excellent read but be prepared for a significant time commitment, as it takes 14 novels to complete it.
