2.5/5

The Night House is a horror/thriller film directed by David Brucker. Beth, the main character, starts to witness mysterious and creepy secrets in the house built by her deceased husband. After the unexpected death of her husband, she is alone in the lake-side house he had built her. Though she attempts to maintain calm and togethers but her dreams start coming. The dreams with a disturbing presence in the house, as if it were a ghost. But in daylight, the ghost is completely gone, and she begins to unfold the truth. The movie stars Rebecca Hall, Sarah Goldberg, Evan Jonigkeit and many more actors.

After watching this movie, I was not really impressed or as spooked as I thought I would have been. The trailer definitely raised my expectations that were sadly not fulfilled. I personally love horror/thriller films and sadly this was not to my liking. There were some good jump scares to the movie with a sense of unease which helped stay with the essence of a horror film, but overall, was not terrifying. Another reason why I gave it a low rating was because I didn't really understand the concept of the movie until an explanation was provided from peers and the internet. Some reasons why I liked it was because I think the acting of the actors and actresses, especially with Rebecca Hall as Beth, Sarah Goldberg as Claire and Vondie Curtis-Hall as Mel. They really helped the story come to life and make its way to sort-of be believable. Also, there were some scenes in the movie which I really enjoyed and thought were genius and a masterpiece (the boat scene). Overall, the movie was good but not to my liking.

The age rating I would give thi movie is definitely 16 plus because of some scenes in the movie. I would really only recommend this movie is if you like thrilling movies that are different from the rest.
