Magnus Chase and the Sword of the Summer is such an amazing read. This book was definitely the book that got me into reading, so as you can imagine, I only have praises to sing about this book. As the Magnus trilogy has the same author as the Percy Jackson books, many people said that Magnus Chase disappointed compared to the original Percy Jackson books, but I felt the opposite, and I really loved the book. I also loved how Magnus was Annabeth’s cousin, and how they are both connected to Norse and Greek  pantheons respectively. The plot starts off immediately, we see Magnus Chase experiencing his 16th birthday on the streets of Boston, who then decides to pay a visit to his Uncle Randoplhs brownstone. Then we immediately see the tension between Magnus and his Uncle, and on the edge of your seat, anticipating the reveal. Then it throws you into the action of a fight between Magnus and the Fire Giant, Surt. We then see Magnus experience something extremely shocking, and then we are introduced into the giant world of Norse mythology in this book. I also liked the representation of South Asian cultures in this book. We see Samirah al Abbas, who is muslim, and get some in depth representation. I also loved all the interactions between the einherjar and how the workings of Valhalla were written. I enjoyed all the comedic chapter titles, as well as the subtle references to the Percy Jackson books. For the first book in a series, this really caught my attention, and made me wait for the next book after the cliffhanger. Overall, this was a great read that really enraptured me, and I would highly recommend it to friends as well as anyone looking for a quick and fun fantasy read.
