Introducing Express Service

We are thrilled to welcome everyone back to the library and invite you to discover our expanded Express Service at the Downtown and Painswick locations.

               Monday 9:30 am - 5:00 pm

               Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 9:30 am - 7:00 pm

               Friday 9:30 am - 5:00 pm

               Saturday and Sunday 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm

  • Browse books movies and more!
  • Borrow items
  • Get help from our knowledgeable Staff, to quickly find needed items and information
  • Access free Wi-Fi
  • Use a computer for up to 60 minutes each day
  • Self-serve print and copy service
  • Return items to the outdoor return slots

You can also place holds on line and drop in to pick up your items in person or, beginning August 24, you can schedule an appointment for low contact curbside pick up.


Note that returned items are quarantined before check in and they may appear on your account for up to 7 days. You may receive overdue notices during quarantine and any replacement costs charged to your account will be removed when the items are checked in.

To help everyone stay safe:

  • Wear a face covering
  • Clean your hands with soap and water or hand sanatizer
  • Maintain 2m physical distance
  • Follow directional arrows
  • Minimize contact with items while browsing
  • Limit your stay to under 60 minutes
  • No social gatherings

How do I request an item?

Browse our catalogue, select the items you'd like to borrow and your pickup location. You will be notified, by email, text or phone, when your item(s) are ready, depending on your account preferences.

Is Express Service safe?

We've designed our reopening services to be low contact so staff and community remain safe. Returned items will be quarantined for 3 days before being checked in and processed by staff. Patrons are asked to wear a mask in the library and respect physical distancing guidelines by staying at least 2 metres apart from staff and other patrons. 

When can I return my items?

Return slots are open 24/7 at both locations. Please note that we are quarantining returned material for 3 days before we check them in. Items may appear on your account for up to 7 days after you return them. We are no longer charging late fees for material returned after the due date. If items are not returned 21 days after the due date, replacement charges will be applied to your account.

What are the fines for overdue books and movies?

Effective July 1, 2020, late fines will no longer be charged for items returned after the due date. Please note that replacement costs still apply for material that is damaged or is 21 days overdue. 

Any outstanding fees on your account can be paid online through Smart Pay.
