Placing Holds

Bestsellers and popular items will often have a wait list to check the item out – you can place a hold on the item to secure your place in line. When it’s your turn, you’ll be notified that you can pick up your item from the Holds shelf at the branch you requested.

Browse the catalogue to find an item you’d like to borrow and click on Request It. You’ll be prompted to enter your library card number and PIN, and then select which branch you’d like to pick up the item from. You can also ask a staff member to place a hold for you.

Holding Process

When your item is ready to be picked up, you’ll be notified by text, phone call or email (depending on your preferences). You'll have 14 days to pick up your hold(s).

You can view the status of items currently on hold for you through your MyBPL account.

Managing Your Holds

Log in to your account and click on the Holds menu on the left side. From here you can cancel the hold, change the Pickup Location or temporarily freeze your hold without losing your place in line.
