Are you a writer, or do you aspire to be one? Mark February 13-19 on your calendar! The Barrie Public Library, in partnership with the Barrie Writers’ Club and Word Up!, is hosting its first Write ON! Festival, a series of online workshops, instructional videos and panel discussions for writers and authors, presented and facilitated by writers, authors and creators. This promises to be a great opportunity to enhance your writing skills while also getting an insider’s view of the publishing industry.
This special week will be packed with the sorts of information and motivation needed to help get words written and published. It all starts on Sunday, February 13, with “Drop-in write in! Storytelling Masterclass for writers” facilitated by Stratford actor and director Scott Hurst. Scott will show how to bring stories to life for audiences using performance and voice techniques.
And don’t miss the keynote — “Navigating the highs and lows of a writing career: What to do when things go wrong” — with Colleen Winter on Wednesday, February 16. Colleen was short-listed for the 2020 Rakuten Kobo Emerging Writer Prize in Speculative Fiction and is the award-winning author of the Gatherer series; she’ll speak on how to thrive and survive in the long game of an author career.
The Library’s Write ON! schedule features daily virtual workshop events, chock-full of information geared just for writers and aspiring writers. Participants can learn how to market books more effectively on social media, uncover tips for finding a book designer or illustrator, and even discover how to get your book into your friendly local Library! This week promises to be a not-to-be-missed opportunity for all things writing.
