The BPL Board has approved a revised Collections Policy. Highlights of the revised policy include:
- Commitment to the recommendations and calls to action outlined in the Canadian Federation of Library Associations’ Truth and Reconciliation Report.
- Statement of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion to ensure that our collection reflects a diverse range of backgrounds and identities, with particular attention to content created by and representative of marginalized and unrepresented groups.
- Removal of age-related borrowing restrictions on DVDs, Blu-Rays, and Video Games. In 2020, the Ontario Government replaced film rating requirements with content notes. As there is no longer a reliable or consistent way to add ratings to library media, we have removed the age-related borrowing restrictions. Parents and guardians are encouraged to manage their child’s access to materials using content information within our catalogue, on the item itself, and online.
- Clarification on donations of materials. Offers to donate books & DVDs to the collection are appreciated; however, only donations of materials related to local content or local authors can be accepted.
