Did you know that Canada has 12.7 MILLION volunteers?! Wow, that's a lot! This year's National Volunteer Week theme is The Value of One, The Power of Many. This is to highlight the inspirational acts of kindness by millions of individuals and the magic that happens when we all work together towards a common purpose.
What this year's theme means to us:
The value of one person sharing their passions and giving their time to the Barrie Public Library
The power of many volunteers promoting inclusion, education and literacy to an entire community
We want to celebrate all of the volunteers out there, especially the incredible people who volunteer their time at BPL! Because of you, we have been able to do so many good things for our community. They include:
- Raising over 2 million dollars from 2003 to 2019 for more than 60 charities through the Barrie Dragon Boat Festival
- Providing friendly customer service at our Café
- Creating a welcome space for newcomers through the English Conversation Circle
- Delivering books and other materials to those who cannot leave their homes
- Teaching children through the Math Buddies and Reading Buddies programs
- So much more!
None of these programs would have been possible without our volunteers. The entire BPL team thanks you from the bottom of our hearts for the time and energy you have put into your work at the library.
We hope to be recruiting volunteers for the Visiting Library Service and BPL LIT, our Teen Advisory Group. If you are interested in being a part of either of these services, keep an eye on our social media channels as we will be announcing outreach for volunteers when the time comes.
