Join in for Climate Action Week — November 1–7, 2025
This year, libraries and cultural organizations across Canada are coming together for Climate Action Week to highlight the urgent challenges and opportunities tied to climate change. The initiative, organized by the British Columbia Library Association (BCLA), emphasizes the role that libraries can play in informing and empowering communities.
Why it matters
As our planet’s climate shifts, knowledge becomes a powerful tool. Libraries are ideally positioned as places where people of all ages can connect, access reliable resources, explore ideas, and take action. The goal of Climate Action Week is to focus on the climate-change-related challenges and emergencies facing our communities, and to raise awareness, answer our communities’ growing needs, and articulate clearly that libraries are places to connect people and access resources on climate change.
What’s happening at our library
We’re proud to host a special display of books and resources dedicated to climate change, its impacts, and the ways we can all respond. Whether you’re interested in the science of global warming, community resilience, sustainable lifestyles, or climate justice, we have materials to spark conversation and curiosity. Drop by the Downtown library to browse our display, borrow a title, or start a discussion with someone else who cares about our shared planet. You can also browse our book lists online.
How you can join in
- Visit the display and pick up a recommended book or two.
- Let us know what you find: share a favourite title and tag us on social media, we love to see what you're reading!
- Talk about what you learn with family or friends. Libraries are stronger when community voices matter.
- Ask our staff if you want help finding more resources or want to explore a particular aspect of climate change.
Together, we can..
Reach a deeper understanding, make connections, and inform action. Because our library is not just a place for books, it’s a place where our community can gather around big questions, explore solutions, and build a healthier future.
Let’s mark Climate Action Week together!
