Access to the Downtown Library will look a little different beginning Friday, June 6, 2025.
The City of Barrie will be closing Owen Street between McDonald Street and Collier Street, including a full closure of the intersection of Worsley and Owen (at the library). The closure is to complete work associated with the Sophia Trunk Storm Sewers project and is expected to be finished by October.
Our Downtown location will remain open throughout. The biggest impact will be the inability to drive up to the curb to access the book drop and Express Pick-up window.
Owen Street Sidewalk
The sidewalk along Owen Street will remain open beside the library. However, the sidewalk from McDonald Street to the library will be re-routed through the library parking lot on the east side of the lot.
Parking Lot
The McDonald Street parking lot behind the library will remain open, but the row of parking spots along the east side of the lot will be inaccessible to allow for the re-routed sidewalk.
Book Drop and Express Pick-up Window
Our outdoor book drop and Express Pick-up windows will remain open and accessible by foot as you will not be able to drive up to the curb. The City will be adding a few ‘Express’ parking spots in the McDonald Street parking lot, which will provide free 5-minute parking to allow for quick book drop and Express Pick-up service.
Accessible Parking
There will be 2-3 accessible spots available at the front of the library on Owen Street.
