On August 17th, 2024, Barrie Public Library proudly hosts the 20th anniversary of the Barrie Dragon Boat Festival, presented by Tim Hortons, at Heritage Park. This milestone event celebrates two decades of community spirit, competitive paddling and raising funds for local charities, marking its largest turnout since pre-pandemic times with 36 teams ready to make waves on Kempenfelt Bay.

“This will be really special as we welcome a record number of teams and paddlers, including many returning participants who have been with us from the start,” said Chris Vanderkruys, Director of Business and Development at Barrie Public Library. “The Barrie Dragon Boat Festival has become a cherished tradition utilizing our city’s beautiful waterfront, uniting our community and supporting local charities, including the library’s ongoing Future Branches campaign.”

Since its inception, the Barrie Dragon Boat Festival has raised over $2 million for local charities, enabling significant community projects such as the Painswick Branch.

As the festival’s presenting sponsor, Tim Hortons reaffirms its commitment to community impact. "We are excited to continue working alongside Barrie Public Library to help make a difference in our community,” adds Johnny MIzzoni, Tim Hortons Restaurant Owner.?“It’s incredible to see the funds that are raised get re-invested in our community through the many charities who benefit, including the Barrie Public Library.  This is way we are proud partners of Barrie Dragon Boat Festival”

Barrie Public Library extends its gratitude to sponsors, participants, volunteers, and community partners whose dedication ensures the success of this annual event. Join us at Barrie’s waterfront starting at 7:00am to celebrate this milestone anniversary, watch the races and support the growth of our community through the Barrie Public Library’s Future Branches campaign.
