The Summer Reading Club (SRC) has officially launched at the Barrie Public Library!

We have many activities, programs, and reading challenges planned every day this summer. Kids ages 3-12 and teens can join the fun starting July 2.

“Sometimes all it takes is that one special book to spark a love of reading in a child,” says Serena McGovern, Children’s Services Librarian at the Barrie Public Library. “That’s what the Summer Reading Club is all about - encouraging kids to read for fun, which will hopefully turn into a lifelong love of books.”

Kids and teens can join from anywhere! They can come to the library to track their books and collect prizes or participate online using the Beanstack Tracker app. The app has fun reading challenges and activities where you can earn badges.

“The Summer Reading Club is really awesome," says 9-year-old Carter Cook. "I love coming to the library with my mom. We get a lot of books, my favourite are graphic novels. I'm excited to see what prizes I can get this year."

We will host many exciting events and programs for the SRC, like escape rooms, painting parties, science experiments, game nights, and more. Library staff will also visit parks and beaches across the city all summer. The fun starts with a Bike Rodeo on Wednesday, July 3 at the Painswick Library.

Last year, almost 1,700 children and 90 teens joined the Summer Reading Club. Together, they read over 22,000 books!

Visit barrielibrary.ca/SRC to register now for the Summer Reading Club. Check out the Summer Reading Club flyer in English and French for all the fun events and activities.
