Thank you to everyone who supported the return of BPL’s BIG Spring Book Sale!
The last weekend of May was very exciting with so much to see and do in our city including visiting the Barrie Public Library’s Big Spring Book Sale at the Downtown location. Booklovers of all ages enjoyed searching through the many tables of pre-loved items in pursuit of new titles to add to their home collection.
Led by volunteers, this event would not take place without the support of these individuals whose dedication and passion for the library really stood out while preparing for and facilitating the multi-day sale. “It’s been a lot of work, but our success in raising funds to help support the growth of Barrie’s public library is a reward in itself,” says Winnie, an avid reader and Volunteer Lead of the Book Sale. “It’s great to have a sustainable way to extend the life of these items and have others continue to enjoy the love of reading,” adds Winnie.
This year’s event hosted the perfect opportunity for the library to make use of previously donated items as well as good-condition materials that have been removed from our collection. The group raised $4,033.10 from the sale and those funds will help advance library services through special offerings like our Creative Spaces, Library of Things, and planning for future branches. “It is the generous support of our volunteers who put together this fundraiser that benefits our entire community” mentions Katelyn Lees, Philanthropy & Resource Development Specialist at the library. “Every donation to the library is very much appreciated and allows us to offer even more services for our patrons to enjoy!” add Lees.
