Hang onto your tights, Batman - superheroes of all shapes and capes are returning to the 2022 BPL Comic Fest! Join us at the Downtown Library on Saturday, September 24 from 10am to 3pm.

This day-long festival celebrates everything comic book and comic book culture, from a Superhero Storytime to a Prince and Princess Party with Royal Headquarters for the kids. There will be many opportunities for adults to express their inner comic superhero, whether by attending a Local Illustrator Panel at 10am, joining a workshop with the Drawing House at 11am or slaying monsters with Canada’s Got Talent contender Rachel the Bardbarian at 1pm.

“There is always such a feeling of celebration, creativity and fun with our Comic Fest and it will be fantastic to have that energy back in the building,” said Sandra Sydor, Manager of Community Engagement. “We’ve planned something for everyone this year, whether a Sabers, Crowns and Critters Balloon workshop with Mabel Moon, or a series of lightning talks with local cosplayers, illustrators and artists.” Sydor added that costumes are encouraged, but not required, for anyone attending. “We always aim for fun at this event and will be featuring some local cosplayers, who will be ready for photo opportunities or to share some secrets of their amazing costumes.”

A Vendor Market will be set up inside, so bring your wallet and explore local makers’ and creatives’ products and ingenuity. There will also be a Dungeons & Dragons Den running through the course of the day, and live streaming of the online Game On!  tournament on our big screen.

BPL Comic Fest is being held in partnership with the City of Barrie’s Game On! event, which takes place virtually and at the Five Points Theatre. Game On! is hosting an online gaming tournaments for ages 13 and under and 14 and up during the day, as well as a social mixer – Game On! After Dark – for those 19 and over on Saturday evening.

Check back regularly with the BPL Comic Fest webpage for updates on schedules, a full list of speakers, events and activities.
