Construction has begun on a landscaping refresh project at our Downtown Library!
The City of Barrie is repairing and refreshing the hardscape around the full perimeter of the building. The project also includes John Edwin Coupe Park beside the library and is expected to finish in mid-October.
Metal fencing has been installed around the full perimeter of the park, along Worsley Street, and up Owen Street to the front of the library.
Currently the only way to enter the building is through the covered walkway on Owen Street. Accessible parking spaces are available in the parking lot behind the library on McDonald Street.
The library will remain open for the duration of this project with full service, other than a 3-day building closure at the end of August:
- Sunday, Aug. 28: OPEN
- Monday, Aug. 29: CLOSED
- Tuesday, Aug. 30: CLOSED
- Wednesday, Aug. 31: CLOSED
- Thursday, Sept. 1: OPEN
During this time, the building will be closed to in-person visits. We will be offering Express Pick-up and other curbside services from the Delivery Door at the back of the building off the parking lot.
The project includes underground drainage, civil works, electrical upgrades/modifications, tree removals and planting, irrigation, new pavers, bike racks, and benches.
We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience. We are confident that the improvements to the space will be worth it!
