The wait is over! We're excited to announce the launch of Simcoe Reads 2022, a cover-to-cover book competition with seven local libraries!
Join the Barrie Public Library, Essa Public Library, Innisfil Idealab & Library, Midland Public Library, New Tecumseth Public Library, Ramara Township Public Library, and Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library this summer and check out some great Canadian reads. Each library has chosen one book to take part in the challenge, and one local community member to champion it.
We're excited to announce our book title is Can You Hear Me Now? by Celina Caesar-Chavannes, and our Community Champion is Claudine Cousins!
In Can You Hear Me Now?, Celina Caesar-Chavannes digs deep into her childhood and her life as a young Black woman entrepreneur and politician, and shows us that effective and humane leaders grow as much from their mistakes and vulnerabilities as from their strengths. Find it in our collection today.
Barrie Public Library's Simcoe Reads Picks: Community Champion: Claudine Cousins Book: Can You Hear Me Now? By Celina Caesar-Chavannes "Celina’s memoir is the perfect mix of coming-of-age story, radical authenticity and #BlackGirlMagic. Never has a former Canadian politician stripped down and shown up in such an honest way. If you can’t hear Celina by the time you’ve finished this book you need to get your hearing checked”~Review Essa Barrie Innisfil Ramara Midland New Tecumseth Bradford West Gwillimbury Simcoe Reads #SimcoeReadds2022
Read all seven books this summer, pick your favourite and then watch the Community Champions debate live in September to see which book is crowned the winner. Follow the participating libraries on Facebook to learn more about each book chosen for the competition!
