Library Services During COVID

During the provincial emergency and lockdown beginning January 14, both Barrie Public Library buildings will remain closed to in-person visits in accordance with the province-wide lockdown. Patrons will be able to pick-up holds at the front entrances on a drop in basis or by scheduling an Express Pick-up appointment.

We've designed our services and spaces to be low contact so staff and the community remain safe.  To help everyone stay safe during curbside pick-ups, please:

  • Wear a face covering that covers your nose, mouth and chin
  • Use hand sanitizer
  • Maintain 2m physical distance between staff and other patrons
  • Return items using the outdoor return slots

We can help you with you choose your next books or movies. Fill out the Next5 form and we will send you a list of items or place them on hold for you to pick up!

Library Hours

During the lockdown, the library is open for pick up of material at the front entrance:

  • Monday 9:30 am - 5:00 pm
  • Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 9:30 am - 7:00 pm
  • Friday 9:30 am - 5:00 pm
  • Saturday and Sunday 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Request & Pick Up Items

Browse our catalogue, select the items you'd like to borrow and your pickup location. You will be notified, by email, text or phone, when your item(s) are ready, depending on your account preferences.

When you receive notification, drop in to pick up your items in person or schedule an appointment for low contact Express Pick Up.

Printing

During the lockdown, send us the documents you would like printed to askus@barrielibrary.ca. and which location you would like to pick them up at and we'll have them ready for you to pick up at the front entrance. Please note that a cost may apply.

Returns

Returns

Returns are accepted 24/7 through our outdoor return slots. Returned items are quarantined before check in and they may appear on your account for up to 7 days. You may receive overdue notices during quarantine and any replacement costs charged to your account will be removed when the items are checked in.

Fees For Overdue Material

Effective July 1, 2020, late fines will no longer be charged for items returned after the due date. Please note that replacement costs still apply for material that is damaged or is 21 days overdue. 

Any outstanding fees on your account can be paid online through Smart Pay.

And remember, there are never any fees for material borrowed from our Digital Library!
