The Barrie Public Library offers a wide variety of business resources to help you grow and strengthen your business. Our goal is to enhance community growth and promote local business success.

The library offers the following business resources: 

  • free Wi-Fi
  • Computer access (180 min/day) including 2 accessible computers
  • Printing and copying in black & white; scanning (no fax services available)
  • Business related print and digital books, magazines, newspapers, audiobooks, and DVDs
  • A meeting room that can be rented for promotional events, business meetings, workshops or seminars
  • Programs including starting your business basics, business plan basics, social media for business, workshops on how to use our databases and more
  • Digital Library, including 9 business databases, many of which are available remotely
  • A Business Librarian available to speak to your group on a variety of topics
  • Community Information Database- A community directory of information about non-profit agencies, government offices, clubs, special interest organizations and more.  Useful to research competition, for B2B research or local business association, networking and service searches. Non-profits may get listed!

Digital Library

From researching your target market to mapping out your competition, searching census statistics to learning how to write a business plan, our databases can help you take your business to the next level.

Rent a Meeting Room

Our Massie Family Program Room at our Painswick Branch is available to available to rent for meetings, workshops, events and more. Booking the room is free for non-profits, and costs $60 for businesses and $40 for individuals.  Learn more about room rentals.

  • Federally Incorporated Companies- Search by corporate name or incorporation number for companies that are incorporated at the federal level. Includes basic information on each corporation.
  • Canadian Public Company Filings- Contains all filings by Canadian public companies. You can search the database or go straight to company profiles. Also known as SEDAR (Securities Electronic Document Analysis & Retrieval).
  • Canadian Importers Database– Provides lists of companies that import goods into Canada, and their locations. You can search by a specific product, and identify the top importers from any Canadian city or foreign country. 
  • Canadian Company Capabilities - Find companies that can supply your organization with the goods, services and technology you need.

  • Free Map Tools- Generate a list of postal codes from an area selected on a map.
  • Canada Post Precision Targeter – Direct Marketing tools. Plan a targeted mailing or use the Delivery Area Counts and Maps data to select delivery routes.
  • Media Smarts : Canada's Centre for Digital and Media Literacy- Canadian non-profit with a focus on educating and providing information tools on how media works.
  • Statistics Canada - Industry classifications - Includes the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) for Canada and the US, Sistema de Clasificación Industrial de América del Norte (SCIAN), Statistical classification of economic activities in the European Community (NACE), International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC), and Standard Industrial Classification (SIC).

  • Futurepreneur Canada - Provides financing, mentoring and tools to help 18-39 year old entrepreneurs build sustainable businesses and create value.
  • Government of Canada - Concierge - A single access point to funding, expertise, facilities, and global opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) seeking to grow through innovation. It offers free, one-on-one assistance from expert advisors who provide customized guidance in selecting the most relevant programs and services to help you grow your business.
  • MaRS - Offers an Entrepreneurs Toolkit, including a library of resources, workshops and a certificate in entrepreneurship. Also can help with funding a business through the Investment Accelerator Fund (IAF) with a focus on Cleantech, ICT, life science and healthcare sectors.
  • Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Innovation- Information on government services for Ontario's small business owners and entrepreneurs.
  • Ontario Network of Entrepreneurs (ONE) - A collaborative network built to help your business succeed.
  • Small Business Enterprise Centres- Provides support services to start-up and small businesses during their first through fifth years of development and operation
  • Seontario – Suggested enterprise tools, marketplaces, policy, research, communities and financing. Access the social enterprise directory by region or category searches.
  • ventureLAB - ventureLAB helps entrepreneurs bring their innovations to market by offering a combination of mentoring, partnering, and connecting tailored to the unique needs of each business. ventureLAB supports York Region, Simcoe County and Muskoka District.
